DAVIESS COUNTY, Ky. (WEHT) — The Green River Community Food Warehouse has spent the past 6 years on a mission to tackle the issue of food insecurity head on. “It could be like a single mom trying to raise [kids with] two jobs or an elderly couple who are on a fixed income and can’t get out of the house,” says Steve Innes, the leader of the Green River Community Food Warehouse.
Members say plans for a temperature controlled warehouse could make the difference for families in need and expand pantry options to fresh produce and meat.
“It requires about 20,000ft² of total storage. We measure that by how many donations might be available [and] how many pantries and kitchens we want to serve. We can supply enough donated food to support the 30 or so pantries and kitchens in Owensboro,” says Innes.
