Owensboro city commissioners are considering increasing their financial support to a planned climate-controlled food warehouse that would support area food pantries and soup kitchens.
Tuesday evening, commissioners held the first reading of an amendment to the 2024-25 city budget that would, among other things, allocate $400,000 to the Green River Community Food Warehouse. The commission will vote on the amendment at their first meeting in June.
The plan was announced in December 2023, with officials hoping to create a large warehouse with refrigeration and freezer sections for food storage.
